IMIB HV 2023 - successor to the EoS tester (81315A94550)
What is the IMIB HV device?
IMIB HV is an electronic diagnostic device for testing high-voltage components. – the successor to the EoS tester. IMIB HV, which stands for Integrated Measurement Interface Box High Voltage, is necessary for the service function to remove the high voltage battery lock on BMW cars. It is used to test batteries and assign them online. It works through the diagnostic software for the BMW brand, ISTA.
ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) is an advanced diagnostic tool created specifically for BMW vehicles. It allows fault detection, updates and programming of the vehicle’s control modules.
What is the IMIB HV used for?
In post-accident BMW vehicles, it is necessary to unlock the HV battery. In order to restart the vehicle, the high-voltage battery must be inspected. This inspection, exactly the EoS procedure, is carried out to make sure that the battery is not a danger and is ready for safe operation.
An post-accident car has a battery crash stored in its controller. Its removal is possible only after the Safety Box, relays, pyrotechnics and battery controller are replaced. Then, new modules must be assigned to the battery. Again, this is only possible using the ISTA program in conjunction with IMIB HV.
Using this tool, among other things, check the voltage resistance and zero voltage level, check the tightness of the battery case or measure the insulation resistance.

Functions:
- Final test after battery repair
- Full safety test of stored battery
- Full safety test before battery reuse or disposal
- Resting bus simulation for battery activation
- Dielectric strength check
- Zero voltage check
- Leak test of the battery case
- Insulation resistance measurement
What error codes indicate the need for IMIB HV?
- 0x21F2A8 – high-voltage battery assembly, high-voltage battery safety terminal: incorrect primer/engagement electronics (pyrotechnics)
- 0x21F37E – collision identification: collision recognized based on ACSM signal
- 0x21F43C – high voltage battery assembly, supply voltage is too low: failure to turn on coolant shut-off valve due to too low voltage
Connection confuguations:
(1) Tablet: It is directly connected to the IMIB HV.
(2) IMIB MA: This is a software component that must be installed on the tablet. It serves as the connection between the service function and the IMIB HV.
(3) ISTA: The ISTA application must be installed on the tablet. The connection to IMIB MA is established via the connection manager during the service function.
(4) IMIB HV: An electronic diagnostic device for testing high-voltage components. The IMIB HV is connected to the high-voltage battery.
(1) ISID Next: Workshop notebook for diagnostics and programming.
(2) IMIB MA: This is a software component that must be installed on ISID Next. It serves as a link between the service function and IMIB HV.
(3) ISTA: The ISTA application must be installed on ISID Next. The connection to IMIB MA is established via the connection manager during the service function.
(4) IMIB HV: An electronic diagnostic device for testing high-voltage components. The IMIB HV is connected to the high-voltage battery assembly.
(5) USB connection cable: This cable is required to establish a connection between ISID Next and IMIB HV.
Two such IMIB devices from 2022 and 2023 are available on the market, with the numbers 81315A78C5 and 81315A94550, respectively.
Safety Box
A three-relay unit with an ammeter and voltmeter used to apply a control voltage before power is sent to the inverter. If an error occurs or the threshold is exceeded, the main contactor will not close. The primary contactor will open and the voltage will be delivered to the inverter if all the parameters are correct. The term “precharging” describes this action.
