BMS20PT30
We had the pleasure of regenerating a battery in a 2021 Mercedes CLA 250e BMS20PT30 (plug-in hybrid). It turns out that even if we physically repair the fault in the battery itself, there’s still one more problem – the control unit. The controller is designed in such a way that it does not allow the error to be cleared after the battery is repaired. This raises questions: isn't this a deliberate action? After all, battery regeneration is possible – even at authorized service centers, which officially offer this service. We have been professionally regenerating batteries in all hybrid and electric vehicle brands for a long time. However, we are increasingly encountering deliberate restrictions imposed by manufacturers, aimed at making repairs more difficult: – no availability of individual battery components, – no access to cables, modules, cells, or controllers on the market. While it’s still possible to purchase a complete battery, getting specific parts is nearly impossible. Despite these challenges, we find effective solutions that restore full functionality to the battery system – without the need to replace the entire unit. And when we try to use used parts, we discover that controllers are locked and cannot be programmed into another vehicle. Nice “eco-friendly” solutions, right?

We regenerate control units for Mercedes vehicles!

BMS20PT30

We offer a professional service for removing permanent error codes from high-voltage battery control units.

Thanks to specialized software and our experience with hybrid and electric systems, we can safely diagnose and remove permanently stored faults that may affect vehicle performance or limit its functionality. This service restores full functionality to the battery management system and helps prevent unnecessary restrictions in the operation of the drivetrain.

Why is a quick diagnosis crucial?

Both errors relate to systems responsible for the vehicle’s core functions – starting, power supply, and energy management. Neglecting them may lead to:

– permanent damage to electronic modules
– depletion of the main traction battery
– critical errors in the BMS (Battery Management System)
– inability to start the vehicle

What does a professional battery diagnosis look like in an electric vehicle?

At our service center, we use the authorized Xentry Diagnosis system, which allows for:

– reading and analyzing errors from BMS systems
– detailed battery capacity check (e.g. 43.56Ah vs. declared 43Ah)
– voltage measurement of each individual cell – we verify, for example, 100 cells separately
– monitoring the operating temperature of the HV module
– assessing insulation condition and the safety of the high-voltage installation
– detecting issues with software and module firmware versions

The photos show the correct operation of the battery:

Error codes related to high-voltage battery sensors and voltage:

P0B1000 – Current Sensor B (HV battery) – Short to ground
Indicates a short circuit in the current sensor circuit, which may interfere with accurate current measurement in the high-voltage battery.

P0B1600 – Voltage Sensor B (HV battery) – Short to ground
Similar to the above, but relates to a short circuit in the voltage measurement circuit – this may lead to incorrect voltage readings in the battery.

P1CC100 – HV battery voltage monitoring – Voltage too low or external signal too low
The system detected that the battery voltage has dropped below the threshold or there is an abnormal signal from an external sensor.

P1CC200 – HV battery voltage monitoring – Voltage too low or external signal too low
A second variant of the same type of fault – possibly affecting a different voltage range or testing condition.

P06B400 – Sensor voltage supply 2 – Short to ground
The power supply circuit for sensor group no. 2 (e.g. temperature, voltage, current sensors) has a short to ground – this may lead to multiple components failing at once.

Error codes related to the HV battery control unit:

P060A00 – HV battery controller – Faulty monitoring
A general internal controller error – may indicate a problem with logic processing or controller components.

P056200 – HV battery controller – Supply voltage too low
The controller’s own power supply has dropped below the acceptable level – can cause unstable operation or restarts.

U300100 – HV battery controller – Watchdog output malfunction
The “watchdog” is a safety mechanism to prevent the controller from freezing – if the system detects no response, this error is triggered.

Communication error codes with sensors:

U064A00 – HV battery current sensor A – Communication error
No or disrupted communication with sensor A, which may prevent correct battery current measurement.

U01A000 – HV battery sensor module A – CAN communication fault
A specific CAN bus problem with sensor module A – may be caused by a broken wire or software issue.

U01A100 – HV battery sensor module B – CAN communication fault
A similar issue as above, but affecting sensor B.

Temperature-related error code:

P144600 – HV battery temperature sensor – Signal unclear (also affects cruise control)
The system received inconsistent temperature data – may impact cruise control or thermal protection functions of the battery.
